Grey’s Anatomy – The Tribute Meredith Deserved

Welcome back to the review of the eighth episode of the sixteenth season of Grey’s Anatomy , My Shot. In my opinion, this was a tribute episode to Meredith Grey .

A journey, if we want to be precise, that has retraced all the most important stages of her life since we met her. An example and a constant reminder of all the obstacles and all the victories that have seen our beloved Meredith as the protagonist . And it makes you think. It doesn’t happen to all TV series to have the opportunity to see beloved characters grow for sixteen years. Sixteen years is a lot from a narrative point of view. It’s almost two decades of history that we are given to know, that we are lucky enough to know. History that, allow me, we have also experienced, first hand, with all the characters who have alternated on the screen.

Grey's Anatomy

All the drama, all the deaths, all the victories, all the goodbyes, all the loves and friendships. We were there and, even if it was through a letter or a flashback, today, in this episode of Grey’s Anatomy , those people were honored: all of them. We were there during every stupid and reckless choice made by Meredith, we were there with her hoping that she wouldn’t get caught or, at least, that she wouldn’t be kicked out of the hospital. We were there with her during the grief that hit her and that, in some ways, hit us too. We stayed by her side with bated breath during her turbulent pregnancies and during Bailey’s birth, praying until the last second that our unfortunate doctor wouldn’t die under the knife.

We were with her when she had to suffer Derek’s death and we faced with her the devastation that followed that tragic event. We saw her say goodbye to her person and pick herself up, get back on her feet and start walking alone in that world that she had never known without Cristina. We were with her as her relationship with Alex intensified, acquiring more and more depth and value until he became her new Cristina, her new best friend. We saw her welcome two new sisters into her life, Maggie and Amelia who became her greatest support network.

Grey's AnatomyWe were there when she made the decision to open her eyes and stop looking the other way. We watched her risk everything, her life, her career, her reputation, but most of all, her freedom and her family. We rooted for her to keep her medical license and continue to make a difference, trying to change the American healthcare system. Meredith Grey has come a long way since she realized that yes, she is the sun .

A little self-centered, but she shines with a light that is not indifferent. Meredith Grey shines so much that it is impossible to stop her. It is impossible to stop or try to suppress her beauty, because she will always find a way to shine, stronger, more intense and more determined than before. And this episode of Grey’s Anatomy is the proof. It is the proof that Meredith is special, it is the proof that Meredith is the sun.

Grey's Anatomy

Seeing all of her patients gathered at her licensure hearing, ready to testify on her behalf was emotional. And I admit I might have shed a few tears, especially when I saw Katie Bryce. It may sound silly, but having her there was truly touching. Hearing her tell her story, recognizing that annoying and snobbish little girl, but finding her mature, grown up and grateful was beautiful.

And yes, we had seen it some time ago, but it is a story that always manages to move me because she was Meredith’s first patient and at the same time Merder’s first patient ( here are the 10 moments in which they made us dream). Unfortunately, even though millennia have passed since Derek’s death, I can only continue to love them endlessly.

Grey's Anatomy

Staying on the subject of Derek, I admit that I completely removed the face of the idiot who killed him and I didn’t recognize him until they showed the flashbacks. Penny I recognized instantly, but it had been relatively short time since McDreamy ‘s tragic death and her face was still well imprinted in my mind. While this Dr. Castello I had completely removed, erased. It’s not nice to say, I know, but karma is bitch! The guy is dead, but not before Meredith could tell him off. And how satisfying!

It was nice to hear the names of Callie Torres, Arizona Robbins ( here is the news on the probable spin-off Calzona ) and April Kepner. I admit that I couldn’t fully accept the idea that my Kepzonas are no longer there so even hearing them mentioned temporarily numbs the pain in my heart. It was very interesting to follow the testimonies of those present and witness the confrontation first between Richard and Miranda and then between Miranda and Meredith . All’s well that ends well, right? For a moment I was disappointed by Bailey’s reaction, but fortunately she came to her senses and managed to do the right thing.

Grey's Anatomy

A little digression on the Link-Amelia-Owen-Teddy situation. How nice was Teddy to accompany Amelia and Link to the hospital, to be by their side every moment and to give them support? This is what I want to see, a lot of mutual support and who knows, maybe this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship, as well as a collaboration. Atticus as usual, proves to be the ideal man. Handsome, thoughtful, sweet and incredibly sexy even when he sits like a common human being. At the moment he is the sexiest character in the cast of Grey’s Anatomy in my opinion.

Sorry Jackson, but lately your behavior has made me less interested in you and that sort of rapprochement with Maggie, in a moment of weakness, has not worked out in your favor.

Back to Meredith. In our hearts, we all knew she would never lose her license. She couldn’t lose it. What would be the point of Grey’s Anatomy if Meredith Grey could no longer be a doctor? In any case, I’m happy and excited about this episode. It was a real tribute to the life of our protagonist at the end of a storyline that I found extremely interesting and that I hope doesn’t end with this trial. I still want to see Grey fight to try to change the American healthcare system, I still want to see her fight for the weakest and I want her to do it with that coat on, the only uniform she should wear.
